MOUNT AGUNG

The ring of fire that links Indonesia has its fifth highest volcano in Bali which is well known as Mount Agung . Towering to 3.142 meters above sea level , the highest mountain in the island is located at rendang district, karangasem regency, bali province. Rising high, it is surraouded with a thick forest where wild boars, long tailed monkeys and a variety of wild bird, including the rare elang bali , call it their home there are tree climbing tracks to reach the peak of mount agung. But all three are quite challengging and are recomemeded only for physically fit tourist to climb.

Considering its important role as one of the ritual centers of balinese people, especially through besakih temple main entrance it is highly recomeded that visitors ask for a guide to visit Mount Agung . Guides can be found at the climbing points, and they can also be found in Gung Bawa Trekking service at the besakih climbing post and MG Trekking in Candidasa.

Mount Agung peak can be reached from a number of directions. The southern track passes through klungkung and candidasa the western track goes though besakih temple and the eastern track passes through tirta gangga and karang asem. The currently popular track is the one taking a route along the eastern beach , including Amed . which will eventually ling to the north direction to tulaben and singaraja. the eastern part of mount Agung peak offers acharming beauty of its surraounding scenery with its long winding path circled by smaller mountains and lake Batur. The climax of the journey is reached when the sun rises behind Mount Rinjani in Lombok Island which stand Across the sea.
