Besakih

Located at the southern slope of mount Agung , Pura kahyangan Jagad Besakih beautifully rises in the village of besakih, rendang distric, karang asem regency, bali province. Besakih comes from the word 'basuki' which means safety in sanskrit. The village has been selected the development of place of worship and has been destined as the location of a mother temple in bali since its sits atop the highest site at the slope of the island biggest mountain .The building complex, constructed in 14 century, consist of 22 temples which line up aloang the foot of the mountain. Its has grade teracces with stairs that represent a spiritual philosopy of journey to reach the summit of the mountain and God , the creator. Besakih temple is a place of worship for hindu darma religion , so tourist are expected to behave properly by not touching or ever holding anything in the temple , and by wearing a tradisional sarong and ikat provided at the entrance point.

Visitors can go up to the largest temple , but only those who will say their prayer are allowed to enter the other temple.
